I am new to requesting datasets and models which are gated and say they need review by the repository authors. What is a reasonable amount of time? I am frustrated because I cannot start my masters capstone project, and I am trying to guage if I need to figure out another plan.
Is it fair for publication authors to claim that they have produced the first “open access” models and datasetse if they cannot be accessed in reality?
Thank you!

If a gated repository’s approval is set to auto mode, you can typically start using it almost immediately after submitting a request. If it’s set to manual mode, a human reviewer will assess it, which can take anywhere from a few hours to over a week, or even result in rejection. If it’s manual mode, it’s best not to be overly optimistic.

Thank you for kindly responding. I am changing to go into my project with the mindset that getting the dataset will be a joyful bonus, and start planning for other resources I can secure now. In a speciality like dental research, finding the data feels like 9/10 success!

I submitted the request on 01/19 then a couple weeks later I noticed that I forgot to submit the form so I did that on 02/02. However, the request status is still pending. Can anyone tell what I have to do.
Thank you,

For manual approval, contacting the reviewer is always the only option.
For Google repositories, contact Google. For Meta, contact Meta. For individuals, contact that individual…
No third party can do anything.
Thank you for your response.
I sent an email to contact@bigcode-project.org but the email is blocked. Is there another way for contacting?

Hmm…? Which gated repo…???
How about contacting via Hugging Face Community Discussion tab of repos?
e.g. https://huggingface.co/datasets/bigcode/the-stack/discussions
The request was submitted for bigcode/bigcode-pii-dataset.
I will check the Community Discussion page.
